There is no doubt that art is a form of creativity, form of expression, a way to break barriers such as with language. Art acts as the steppingstone for bringing those closer to us to create peace and love. The art gallery I choose to appraise was ‘Lucky Places for a Grave’ by Ashley Anderson and Sophia Grecco. Anderson had illustrated that she is an Undergrad at California State University Long Beach, who is currently in Illustration. She had also illustrated that she is into horror, spooky characters, loves oil painting, and is from the southern part of the United States. Anderson had also stated that both artist enjoy charcoal and pastel paintings, and their inspirations for the pieces originate from horror films, anything that ties into horror helps in the process of imagination in creating these pieces.
It is clear that their work is depicting a message. An emblematic message of southern and jewish routes, their story tells of old but yet new horror but yet beautiful pieces. The form of each art piece is relatively equivalent, a majority of the paintings depict dark shadow water colors for the background but also depict dark but yet vibrant colors that make the main centerpiece pop out to the viewer. If you pay close attention, each painting appears to be that each object depicted in the art is in a calm state, as if they are at peace with themselves and are content with the current state in life.
The paintings are about horror, it is illustrating the significance of spookiness, it illustrates that even though horror is depicted as evil and negative. These paintings depict the beautiful side that ties into horror, and how it can illustrate a different perspective on the topic. With this it granted access to be able to use the canvas as a passage way similar to a television, to make horror to be something as accepted, something that can be talked about in a calm manner instead of a worried state or in the presence of fear.
For the reasons above, this art gallery ‘Lucky Places for a Grave’ by Ashley Anderson and Sophia Grecco had illustrated to me that the Arts importance resembles acceptance. It manifests that during the thought of horror, it resonates a new meaning which is accepted rather than to be rejected. It makes visible that you can either make fear your enemy or your friend.
