Week 15 – Remix is the Art of Your Time!

With my Remix Activity i decided to remix a selfie I have taken of myself and I turned myself into a Anime Character. Ive given my anime character a name “迷人的” which translates to charming.

The freedom with this activity was having the choice of doing something you enjoy. For instance in my case I enjoy watching anime, so I tried to tie myself with it with this activity. The risk that tie into this activity was the deciding factor on which selfie I should use that I would like in order to make this image.

My thoughts on copyrighting is that I feel like often it is taken out of context and should be modified. This is because sometimes an individual would create a youtube video or an essay but without knowing there would be a similar piece already out there in which gets their work copyrighted. Which would lead for that individual to go through all of the hassle to dig themselves out of a hole, that they were not intentionally trying to get in.

The license that I choose to use was Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs. Since this work is based off myself and no one else, I have the rights to change it and no one else does unless I give them permission to.

The experience while making this anime version of myself was exciting. I was curious onto how it was going to turn out and I feel as if it came out pretty well. The only challenge I dealt with while making this activity was figuring out a unique name to show case my anime character of myself.

Artist Conversation #5: Kiyomi Fukui

Kiyomi Fukui

There is no doubt that art is a form of creativity, a form of expression, a way to break barriers such as with language. Art acts as the steppingstone for bringing those closer to us to create peace and love. The artist I choose to appraise was Kiyomi Fukui, and I choose to focus on her art piece titled ‘Conversation on Conflict.’ Fukui had illustrated that she was an Undergrad at California State University Long Beach. In which she had stated that she is currently working in the print making industry. Fukui had also illustrated that she is not that fond upon writing. But she feels as if, it is a necessary attribute to have, especially if you are an artist. Fukui stated that her favorite Japanese food of all time had to be noodles, also known as ‘Hot Pot.’ Fukui had also stated that the reason for making the ‘Conversation on Conflict’ project was to illustrate to her father that she loves him. And also, it allowed her to have very deep conversations with her father who now both have a deeper connection together.

It is clear that Fukui’s work is depicting a message. An emblematic message of storytelling on the importance on family relationship, and the importance of expressing your love to those who you care for most dearly. The form of the art piece is relatively equivalent, a majority of the pieces depict these aesthetic objects in which she calls them ‘cranes.’ Fukui illustrated that this process is called crane folding or 1000 paper cranes. Which look like little swans, on each swan it depicts a story or a message resembling Fukui’s father. Fukui stated that this type of artwork is typically only done in time of when a family member is near death or ill. In which if you pay close attention, each swan appears to have taken a long time to construct. This is for the reason that each swan has long list of small handwriting depicting conversations or thoughts on one another.

The art is about family, it is illustrating the importance of expressing your love and sentiment towards one another. This project illustrates that even though it may be difficult to express your emotions to those close to you. It is still important to try and express your emotions with them because it is better to live with the feeling of having expressing those emotions. Rather than having the regret and disappointment of not taking the time to express yourself. With this it granted access to be able to use the ‘cranes’ as a gate way to open yourself up to those close to you. For instance, in Fukui’s case it was with her father. In which allowed her to have a deeper connection with her father which she appreciates dearly to this day.

For the reasons above, this art gallery ‘Conversation on Conflict’ by Kiyomi Fukui illustrated to me that the Arts importance resembles the importance of family. This manifests that expressing and showing your emotions can be the greatest thing that can happen to anyone’s life. Amongst the time spent creating the ‘cranes’ it was clearly worth it since it sparked a new relationship with her father. In which Fukui now has a much better understanding on her father’s ideals and his notion on life itself.

Sustainable Art – Week 13

My idea for this creation was to depict what a item such as color pencils can depict such beauty if you take the time to appreciate them.

The materials I choose to utilize were color pencils. I use these for coloring or making art.

I believe that my piece was able to uncover my idea of illustrating beauty by using objects of simplicity to depict the message of visualizing everyday objects and taking the time to appreciate them and find their beauty.

The choice of using colored pencils helped influence my artwork by strengthening with the use of photos that even by taking the time to gaze at something so pure and simple, beauty lies all around us if we take the time to look for it.

A great kiss can last for minutes

A great meal shall last for hours

A work of art shall last for eternity

Marriage shall last until you are no longer in love with your spouse

A human life shall last until death crosses path with that individual

With Ephemeral artwork and knowing that humans also have a limited time on this earth, the effect on this will allow for the audience to have a more sentiment response towards life and artwork.

Other things for instance water, land, clean air shall indeed be sustainable and long lasting for the reason being that life itself can not live viable without them.

One person as to myself can make a difference with the subject matter of climate change. This being with the right guidance and proper resources I can help make a change or even guide in the right step to help climate change.

Week 12- (my) Virtual Gallery

For the Art Gallery theme I decided to choose was to aspect artist who had a interesting background behind them. I found it really fascinating to see the type of art work they can come up with while having barriers that cant effect their everyday life.

These painting were done by a man named John Brambitt, when John was about 7 years old he was diagnosed with Lyme disease. By his mid twenties John had lost his vision. Despite losing his vision he can still create marvelous pieces such as for the painting listed above and below for instance.

This painting was done by a girl named Sarah, she illustrates this painting to give the audience a visual perspective onto how her childhood was. Sarah mentioned in an article that she had a glum childhood due to the fact that her parents were heavy drinkers and would constantly fight. Which ties back to this painting depicting what she went through growing up.

The image depicted above is painted by a man named Henri Rousseau. Rousseau was a french artist who was known for breaking the framework of academic standards. I choose to Rousseau because once I seen his paintings I was immediately drawn to them for some odd reason that I can not entail.

Week 11: Being yourself can be Art

1. My goal with this video was to showcase that drawing can help pass time and relieve stress during these strange times.

2. I feel as if I accomplished my goal of completing my drawing but not showcasing the characteristic of how it relieves stress.

3. I would do a better job of explaining more in depth and provide more details onto how drawing relieves stress.

4.I feel like i will ‘vlog’ again once we are able to go outside again so I can show case my cinematography skills.

5. My favorite YouTuber at the moment is David Dobrik.

6. His originality and form of content is really funny and different from many other YouTubers.

7. The level of enthusiasm, I can take that from them it’ll help me a lot.

8. Authenticity is the way of showcasing you are authentic.

9. Performance is a way of showcasing who you are.

10. I feel as they can exist together because at some point you are going to cross paths with each-other while performing something of your own work and not someone else’s.

11. I feel as if the clip where they are in the studio of the shown is more authentic because that is where it was intended to be made, and not in our own home. I think the clips are more performative because it illustrates to me that they are trying to just go with the ‘flow’ of things that are happening now.

Week 10- Art is a good way to talk to your brain

This was an eerie experience due to the fact of coronavirus not allowing me to have a friend join me during the making of my spirograph so I had to resort to the next best thing, my 14 year old doll of Woody from Toy Story.

As you can see on the bottom right I drew the first thing that came to mind from CSULB which is the OutPost Grill, I always come here to have lunch they have delicious chicken fingers.

Week 10 Artist Conversation #4

There is no doubt that art is a form of creativity, form of expression, a way to break barriers such as with language. Art acts as the steppingstone for bringing those closer to us to create peace and love. The artist that was appraised was Mahsa Soroudi. This was an interview between my professor Glen in New Port Beach, he uploaded the interview onto youtube. The interview illustrated background on Soroudi, she had illustrated she was born in a town called Tehran in Iran which is actually the capital of Iran. Soroudi had mentioned that her family are the ones who introduced her to art and eventually fell in love with it. Soroudi also stated that her father is an artist and has his own artist academy which is awesome. When she used to live in Iran, as a child her family would take trips to asian communities to be exposed to new cultures to help broaden their imaginations. Also with schooling, she had mentioned she had met a friend who was from Michigan, and both were in undergrad together and had many similar interest in art.

It is clear that her work is depicting a message. An emblematic message of pursuance, to continue with whatever you choose to believe in or feel confident in doing. The form of each art piece is relatively equivalent, a majority of the art is based off of her reality growing up in Iran. The art depicts dark shadow colors for the background but also depict bright vibrant colors that make the main center piece pop out to the viewer. If you pay close attention, each painting appears to tell a story, a-key takeaway I took from viewing the paintings is that I feel sadness being depicted from the faces painted on the canvas.

The paintings are about emotion, it is illustrating the importance of feeling, it illustrates that anyone can have emotion and that it is okay to show those around you that you have sentiment.

For the reasons above, the Artist Mahsa Soroudi has illustrated that no matter what circumstance you may be in, always strive to be the best version of yourself. Along with the hardship you may have encountered, use that as fuel and energy to strive to do great things and to live a memorable life.

Week 8: Artist Conversation #3

There is no doubt that art is a form of creativity, form of expression, a way to break barriers such as with language. Art acts as the steppingstone for bringing those closer to us to create peace and love. The art gallery I choose to appraise was ‘Lucky Places for a Grave’ by Ashley Anderson and Sophia Grecco. Anderson had illustrated that she is an Undergrad at California State University Long Beach, who is currently in Illustration. She had also illustrated that she is into horror, spooky characters, loves oil painting, and is from the southern part of the United States. Anderson had also stated that both artist enjoy charcoal and pastel paintings, and their inspirations for the pieces originate from horror films, anything that ties into horror helps in the process of imagination in creating these pieces.

It is clear that their work is depicting a message. An emblematic message of southern and jewish routes, their story tells of old but yet new horror but yet beautiful pieces. The form of each art piece is relatively equivalent, a majority of the paintings depict dark shadow water colors for the background but also depict dark but yet vibrant colors that make the main centerpiece pop out to the viewer. If you pay close attention, each painting appears to be that each object depicted in the art is in a calm state, as if they are at peace with themselves and are content with the current state in life.

The paintings are about horror, it is illustrating the significance of spookiness, it illustrates that even though horror is depicted as evil and negative. These paintings depict the beautiful side that ties into horror, and how it can illustrate a different perspective on the topic. With this it granted access to be able to use the canvas as a passage way similar to a television, to make horror to be something as accepted, something that can be talked about in a calm manner instead of a worried state or in the presence of fear.

For the reasons above, this art gallery ‘Lucky Places for a Grave’ by Ashley Anderson and Sophia Grecco had illustrated to me that the Arts importance resembles acceptance. It manifests that during the thought of horror, it resonates a new meaning which is accepted rather than to be rejected. It makes visible that you can either make fear your enemy or your friend.

Week 8: Writing a Romantic Pop Song

Until we Meet Again – Produced by Jacob

OOOOOOOOO Baby, the first time I met you,

Was the last time I saw you,

When we meet again,

It wont be the end

You have my heart and soul

Please I beg you I hope you are not a troll

If I roll this dice

You will be in my life

You can have everything in this world

If you choose to be my wife

Until we meet again

Like the last time

Our bond wont be the end

🖤

1. I was thinking of this girl who I saw at school who had me starstruck because she was so gorgeous.

2. My process for writing this song was to be simple, to be straight forward and to speak my mind.

3. It was in the middle, I was surprised with myself for coming up with words that flowed together to rhyme.

4. I do not believe my song will be successful, this was only for the fulfillment of fun and trying something new.

5. I believe I will write another song, when I marry my wife.

6. My other song will be directed to my significant other, illustrating the reason why I fell in love and what makes me feel happy.
